The village is defended on a hill to approximately 170 meters over sea level, in the north-oriental of Elba. Between most ancient countries of the island, with origins in the age of the bronze, conserve numerous traces of its past and between these are also archaeological finds of the sea.
Rio nell'Elba, famous for its iron mines that go back to the Etruscan age, has been the mining center of the island until the closing of the occurrences.
